Why would Mike Peters of the Indianapolis “Mystery” Church ask wives in e-mails to withhold affection from their husbands? Why would he interfere with the husbands spiritual authority? “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body but the wife does. Do not deprive one another” 1 Corinthians 7:3-5. Of course, in the Revised Peters Editon of the Bible he adds, “Unless I tell you not to as a means of having the husband get in line with me”. This is but one of the many extra-biblical man made commandments that Peters ushers into his flock (Matthew 15:9). “In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men”.
Withholding natural affection is a serious flaw in Peters’ doctrine. You can find that phrase in Romans 1:31 and 2 Timothy 3:3. In the New Kings James Version without natural affection means unloving. Why would any pastor admonish a wife, especially through e-mails, to do that to their husbands? Where does he find the Scriptural justification for any of that? What gives him the right to interfere in a relationship between a husband and his wife? It would seem that Peters has his own version of “The Wives Club” of which he is the leader and toastmaster. What he is doing when he admonishes wives in that manner is portraying his form of godliness but denying its power and believers are admonished, “From such people turn away”, not toward (2 Timothy 3:5).
What power does Peters hold sway over the wives, that they even listen to him in the first place? Why would they listen to him over that of the very word of God itself? Is Peters one of those types that have creeped into households to make captives of gullible women (2 Tomothy 3:6)? “A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it” Ephesians 5:25. “And a wife is to submit to her husband as to the Lord” Ephesians 5:22. I see nothing that admonishes a woman to submit to Mike Peters, as to the Lord. “Wives are to be subject to their husbands in everything” Ephesians 5:24. Their husbands, not Mike Peters! They are to be obedient to their husbands, “That the word of God may not be blasphemed” Titus 2:5.
When Peters interferes with a husband’s spiritual authority he is blaspheming the word of God. From such people turn away! Are any wives out there listening?
