Do Your Weak Days Lead Into Even Weaker Ends?
“IF ANYONE WILL NOT WORK, NEITHER SHALL HE EAT”- 2 THESSALONIANS 3:10. Are you working for peanuts? Then get out of your shell and do something about it!
Wouldn’t it be nice if employees and employers actually abided by the word of God in regard to “how” they served before Him? Since we don’t live in an idealistic world, perhaps we should view how God would instruct each?
EMPLOYEE: “SERVANTS, OBEY IN ALL THINGS YOUR MASTER, ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, NOT WITH EYE SERVICE, AS MEN PLEASERS, BUT IN SINCERITY OF HEART, PLEASING GOD. AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DO IT HEARTILY, AS TO THE LORD, AND NOT TO MEN, KNOWING THAT FROM THE LORD YOU WILL RECEIVE THE REWARD OF THE INHERITANCE, FOR YOU SERVE THE LORD CHRIST. BUT, HE WHO DOES WRONG WILL BE REPAID FOR THE WRONG WHICH HE HAS DONE, AND THERE IS NOT IMPARTIALITY”- COLOSSIANS 3:22-25.
The longer instructions goes to the employee. He is to obey the employer over him, not with eye service, but in sincerity of heart. Have you ever heard this? “When the cats away the mice will play!” We aren’t talking about rodents here, but people. We’ve often seen the employee that “kisses up” to the boss to curry favor with them. That is a man pleaser! And, those are the one’s that are more than likely to “play: when their boss is away! All that aside, the employee that is right in the eyes of the Lord will work as if the Lord God Almighty were keeping watch over him. When we take that approach to our work, production will increase. Have you ever seen the employee that is continually late for work, and yet sees nothing wrong with that? What about the employee that takes an extra ten minutes for lunch? Have you ever wondered why employees make less than a 100% effort?
EMPLOYERS: “MASTERS, GIVE YOUR SERVANTS WHAT IS JUST AND FAIR, KNOWING THAT YOU ALSO HAVE A MASTER IN HEAVEN…GIVE UP THREATENING”- COLOSSIANS 4:1 AND EPHESIANS 6:9.
Have you ever felt that your employer were standing behind you with a big club? Does your employer also treat you fair? Does he pay you for the work that you do for him? “THE WAGES OF THE LABORERS WHO MOWED YOUR FIELDS, WHICH YOU KEPT BACK BY FRAUD, AND THE CRIES OF THE REAPERS HAVE REACHED THE EARS OF THE LORD OF SABBOTH”- JAMES 5:4. Of course, someone like that doesn’t describe your boss, now does it? How can we get employees and employers on the same page? Have you ever had an employer hold back part of the bonus that they promised to you? Then they wonder why they hear all that employee grumbling around the water cooler? “Where’s all that employee loyalty?”
Many companies have employee problems and turn-over because their employees are so under paid. “Those ingrates! I pay them a dollar over the minimum wage and yet James had the audacity to tell me that he couldn’t live on what I pay him?” And, while James probably makes about seven dollars an hour, his boss makes about seven dollars a MINUTE! Can his boss truly relate to his problem?
One of the problems in the workplace is greed. Both employees and employers are out to cheat the other, and when that happens, no one is the winner. The employee gets back at the boss by poor work performance, and then the employer is continually griping about the large turn over he has. In actuality, the employer spends more money by continually recruiting and training that he could afford to pay his employees more if he really thought about that. What he would save on the former would help him increase wages to the latter.
Until we begin abiding by the word of God, as it relates to our work place, these problems will continue. Employers will be finding ways to track their employees, and employees will find means to counter that approach. Just think about the productivity that companies could have if they abided by the word of God? But, then, there’s that greed factor that operates on both sides of the coin. So, get with God’s program for YOUR workplace, and, if you are still unsure about it, consult the word of God again and again until you do get the picture.
